The typical 1HZ sensor location is on the waterneck at the front of the engine just in front of the inlet manifold.
If you have a 1HD-T or 1HD-FTE the sensor locations are similar. There are other possible locations but these are commonly used. The location on the rear of the head works well, but is difficult to reach if the engine is in the car in most models.
If you find that bolt difficult to access with the manifold on, use the waterneck bolt to the immediate left.
